Various versions of Activision’s popular Call of Duty game have been somewhat dominating the best-selling games list since 2009.
According to a post shared by gaming industry research firm Circana on social media platform X, it is shown that the newest game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is the 2nd best-selling game for 2023. All these years the last such thing has happened only 2 times – in 2013 and 2018 when Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 were released respectively.
The new ranking shows that Hogwarts Legacy tops the list of best-selling games in 2023. Despite creating controversy after JK Rowling’s endorsement, the game sold around 22 million copies last year. Harry Potter fans have long been waiting for a high-quality game, the story of which takes place in the school of wizards. Hogwarts Legacy also delivered on the promise to deliver a true Harry Potter open-world experience.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was the 5th best game of 2023, according to this list. This game would likely rank much higher on the list if Nintendo released accurate sales figures, as sales are recorded up to September 2023. This means that about four months of sales data is missing from the list.
That data will only be available when the company releases quarterly earnings information later this month. However, Tears of the Kingdom could reach the top of the rankings when this data is released, reports Kotaku. This game has sold 19.5 million copies by September 2023 and is only 2.5 million sales away from Hogwarts Legacy.
Other top-selling titles included Madden NFL 24 at No. 3 and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 at No. 4.
